Job Responsibilities

As a Ruby-on-Rails Developer, you will:

  • Work closely with our product designers to understand functionality, layouts, and interfaces in order to provide accurate development estimates
  • Adhere to our test driven development (TDD) standards by writing comprehensive tests to verify your code
  • Pair program with other team members to implement Ruby code using the Ruby on Rails framework and other open source libraries

As a senior developer, you will:

  • Regularly assess the scalability of the data and application architecture to help us grow the product in a sustainable fashion.
  • Help improve existing development processes and be able to impart change on other team members

Mandatory Skills:

  • Have excellent oral communication skills
  • 5-10 years experience working on large-scale web applications (not necessarily in Ruby)
  • Be proficient at the Ruby programming language and 2+ years working with Ruby on Rails
  • Have strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript, SQL
  • Show a strong ability to solve problems systematically and creatively
  • Proven experience in areas such as job/messaging queues, geographical segmentation and internationalization, EDI integration, API development, manipulating very large datasets (100s of GB)

Additional Assets:

  • Experience with pair programming and test driven development
  • Strong knowledge of tuning and scaling PostgreSQL
  • Experience with document databases such as MongoDB
  • Values efficiency, simplicity, and bang for buck
